A Lesson: Lip flip vs Lip filler

When it comes to enhancing your pout, there are two options: the lip flip or lip filler. We don’t think one is better than the other, it just depends on what you want to achieve!

If you know santāl skin, you know we are big advocates of skin health and medical grade skincare. Sometimes, maintaining a plump and youthful glow goes beyond all of our favorite skin care products. We’re not talking anything too invasive–in fact, you probably have the right tools with you right now. They are your hands, and you just need to learn how to use them!

What is lymphatic drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a manual massage technique that works on the lymphatic system, stimulating it to work quickly by moving the lymph to the lymph nodes. Its main function is to accelerate the process of removing the accumulated liquid between the cells directing them to the capillary vessels through specific movements so that they are eliminated.

Lymphatic facial massage is a great way to address everything from fine lines to circulation and even helping to achieve a more sculpted jawline and cheekbones. This is a technique we use during our bespoke signature facial, and the benefits include:

Stimulates blood circulation and tissue regeneration

Directs and increases lymphatic flow, promoting faster removal of excess fluids

Reduces swelling and water retention

Improves the immune system due to the important elimination of toxins

Promotes body and mental relaxation

Provides an overall lightness in the body

Energizes the Body

What to Expect

If someone is giving you a lymphatic drainage massage, prepare to feel them working on you—it’s not a Swedish massage, it’s definitely deeper. But also, expect to feel lighter when it’s over and to look more contoured. You’ll notice a pinkish tint to your skin that’s directly related to increased blood flow. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you’re sore the following two days from the pressure the we will use during the massage. You also might notice more mobility in certain muscles than you didn’t previously have (which, goals). As well as an energized feeling within your body, along with the need to pee more. This happens because your lymph will be moving properly, but also because you’ll need to stay hydrated post-massage (professional or DIY) to maintain the benefits.

Pop quiz: What is your body’s largest organ?

Hint: We’re experts in this area + can help with long term health of this organ… it’s literally IN our name.

Your skin is your body’s largest external organ and provides a barrier between your body’s essential organs, muscles, tissues, skeletal system and the outside world.

At santāl skin, it’s our job to keep your skin functioning at it’s best for years to come to not only give you the glowing complexion you deserve and slow down the process of aging, but also to help manage certain pre-existing skin conditions like: acne, rosacea, melasma, and PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).

Let’s talk layers! Skin has two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The health of both of these layers is important when it comes to anti-aging and promoting overall skin health and function.

Epidermis:

The epidermis is the top, visible layer of the skin, and has 5 sub-layers. It is constantly shedding dead skin cells from the top layer and replacing them with new healthy cells that grow in lower layers. As we age, turnover of new, healthy skin cells slows down, like.. a lot. By age 25, our skin is considered “old”. The first signs of aging begin on our skin’s surface: fine lines, pigmentation, and overall dullness.

Dermis:

The dermis is the deeper layer of the skin. It is thicker than the epidermis, contains collagen and elastin, and helps support the structure of skin that we see. As we age, our skin’s repair system and collagen production slows down and the structure in the dermis begins to “slide”. Think: Sideways bricks. The “mortar” between the bricks (i.e skin cells) begins to weaken, and gives way to age and gravity.

While aging is inevitable (+ also a blessing), we are big advocates of doing so gracefully.

Are you ready to take control of your skin health?

If you’re looking for a 6 month glow, it might be time to book Skinvive.

What it is…

Skinvive is our go-to treatment for a hydrated, glowing complexion. It is a lightweight injectable form of hyaluronic acid that treats dullness and fine lines and improves hydration. This skin quality treatment acts as an internal moisturizer, stimulating hydration for that megawatt glow.

Why We Highly Recommend…

It is injected superficially as microdroplets to increase hydration, boost collagen, and soften the skin. It is ideal for treating skin laxity, smoothing fine lines, and improving the overall luminosity of your skin. The best part? It lasts for up to 6 months.

How It Works…

Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient present in many skincare products, and is even naturally present in the body. It is also what your favorite filler is made of, and has been used for decades to add volume to areas of the face.

Skinvive, however, is made with a different type of hyaluronic acid that when injected into the skin, hydrates and smooths without adding volume or fullness. This low-viscosity (thin) product is injected into the dermis where it will draw hydration from the body and creates a brighter, softer, and more hydrated appearance. Hyaluronic acid is hydrophilic which means “water-loving”, and is the reason this treatment draws moisture to the area in which it is injected.

Pro tip: We love it for subtle volume + hydration in the lips!
