Sculptra: The Age-Defying Injectable

What if I told you we could restore volume using your body’s own collagen? Aging slows the collagen and elastin production in our skin, but with Sculptra, we have the perfect little boost to improve skin laxity, minimize wrinkles, and create a smoother appearance of the skin. Enter: Biostimulators. These are an age-defying injectable that boosts your own natural collagen production.

What is Sculptra?

Collagen is the most abundant type of structural protein found in the body, but it is lost to the aging process. Sculptra is an injectable treatment that works with your body to gradually rebuild and replace collagen that has been lost. The active ingredient in the Sculptra treatment is microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, which is a member of the AHA family among glycolic and citric acid. These AHA’s are primarily responsible for helping the skin shed dead skin cells. Sculptra is injected superficially into the skin where it starts to restore structure and volume. As it is absorbed deeper into the dermis, Sculptra stimulates increased production of type 1 collagen which provides support for the skin.  Over time, an increase of type 1 collagen leads to reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Areas to Treat

This is dependent upon a patient’s concerns, but common areas include:

Temples / Cheeks / Chin / Jawline / Neck

When to Expect Results

Like most medical aesthetic treatments, the number of treatments can vary between individuals. It depends on anatomy, age, and total amount of volume loss. Most patients see results after one or two treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. As collagen production begins to increase, you will see improvements for up to 24 months. You can maintain these results by coming in for yearly touch ups and continuing to build collagen!

Post Treatment Instructions

These are similar to other injectable treatments: avoiding makeup for the first day after treatment, skipping any strenuous workouts, and staying away from direct sunlight for the first few days. However, there is a big difference when it comes to putting pressure on the injection sites. Let’s talk about the 555 rule! It is actually recommended that you massage the areas treated at least 5 times per day for 5 minutes each for the first 5 days after your appointment.
