Congrats! You’ve done the research, completed a consult, and decided Kybella is the right medical aesthetic treatment for you! Let’s talk about what happens when you walk into the treatment room.
Preparing for Kybella
When you arrive for your appointment, we will discuss any existing questions you may have about the treatment itself, post-care, and what to expect in the coming weeks. Then, we will cleanse the area and immediately apply ice packs to the areas. This helps to minimize any discomfort you may experience during the injections. It will also reduce swelling.
The provider will begin to draw up the Kybella while you numb with the ice packs, and then mark the injection sites with a white eyeliner pencil. Once the area is prepped and ready, your provider will perform the injections. Injections last around 10 minutes, but it may take multiple sessions to reach your goal. While the procedure may be slightly uncomfortable, most patients tolerate it well. We have the best distraction tools and do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible!
Each session of Kybella can include up to 50 separate injections. After the injections are complete, we will replace the ice packs to help further reduce the amount of swelling you may experience!
What Happens After?
We will schedule a 4, 8, and 12 week follow-up to ensure the treatment is working!
Post-Kybella injection, you should expect some mild to moderate swelling. Swelling can be related to the trauma caused by the needles’ puncture and a sign that the deoxycholic acid is working.
Over time, the acid kills off the fat cells present under the chin, and the body works to metabolize them slowly. It takes about 12 weeks to see full results.
Sleep face up with your head slightly elevated to help maintain your Kybella injections and minimize potential side effects. Although it may be tempting, avoid touching, pressing, massaging, manipulating or rubbing the area.
You can use ice packs as needed to help manage the swelling and discomfort, but only in 20-minute intervals to avoid damaging the skin.
We recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise for at least three to five days after injections and make sure to drink plenty of water to help your healing process. You’ll also want to avoid excess heat or sun exposure, as your skin will be more sensitive while it heals.
Kybella injections are considered permanent as long as you practice a healthy lifestyle. Keep in mind–it may take multiple sessions to achieve desired results, performed every 4-6 weeks!
Managing the Appearance of Lower Chin/Neck
Take it to the tits. You heard us! Can we all just agree that so much of skin care focuses on the face? Our beautiful money makers do deserve a lot of love and attention, but we need to remember that our neck and chest are an extension of our face and often visible in the clothing we wear!
When you do your AM/PM skin care routine, do you include your neck and chest? These areas often show signs of aging before other areas of the skin. Extend all skin care to your neck and chest to lift, firm, hydrate, and restore! Don’t let your face look 30 and your neck look 50! Take it to the tits.
